UT Medical Branch in Galveston develops nasal spray treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease
Haley Hernandez6m read
Researchers at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston have developed a nasal spray treatment that could potentially halt or reverse Alzheimer’s disease by targeting tau protein buildup, a key culprit in the disease’s progression. Early animal studies showed that mice treated with this spray regained memory and normal behavior, benefiting from rapid drug delivery to the brain via the nasal route. The team believes this approach could also address other tau-related neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s and dementia with Lewy bodies.
